江啟明一直醉心於藝術繪畫創作和美術教育的傳承,五十多年來曾先後任教於香港美術專科學院、大一設計學校、香港中文大學校外進修學院、香港浸會大學持續進修學院、香港理工大學以及香港懲教署等等。
江氏以素描香港街景最廣為人熟悉,過千幅作品,記錄了香港的歷史變遷和急速發展。江氏多套繪本先後被香港藝術館、浸會大學珍藏。其中《香港史畫》,更獲前港督衛奕信爵士及前英國首相戴卓爾夫人讚賞,並收藏於督憲府及首相府圖書館內。近年江氏的代表作《錦繡中華》系列,創作則重注入深摯愛國之情,讓山河、大地、名勝、人物,全充滿強烈的氣魄和民族性,完美演繹「靈」。
江氏於1995年獲香港浸會大學林思齊東西學術交流研究所授予「榮譽院士」,同年獲委任為香港藝術館顧問。此外,亦於2006年獲香港特別行政區頒授銅紫荊星章,以表揚江氏五十多年來在藝術上的貢獻。
For more than 50 years, Kong Kai Ming has devoted his life to painting and arts education. He has taught in various institutions and organizations, including the Hong Kong Academy of Fine Arts, the First Institute of Art and Design, the Department of Extramural Studies of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the School of Continuing Education of the Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Correctional Services.
Mr Kong is best known for his sketches of Hong Kong street scenes. In more than 1,000 works, he recorded the historical transformation and rapid development of Hong Kong. Many albums of Mr Kong’s art works are in the collections of institutions such as the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Baptist University. One of these albums, Paintings of Hong Kong Historic Landmarks, earned the commendation of the former Governor Hong Kong David Wilson and the former British Prime Minister Mrs Margaret Thatcher, and is now kept in the libraries of both Government House and 10 Downing Street. Mr Kong has recently produced a series called Splendid China, which he has endorsed his patriotism in his creation. The rivers, earth, landmarks and characters are fueled with energy and ethnicity which express the “spirit” vividly.
In 1995 Mr Kong was made an honorary research fellow by the David C Lam Institute for East-West Studies and in the same year, was appointed a consultant of the Hong Kong Museum of Art. In 2006 Mr Kong was conferred the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in recognition of his five decades of contribution to art.

Panelists' opinion: Kong Kai Ming's sketches, veritable records of Hong Kong's historical development, are infused with local style and social significance. Technically, his works are of the highest standards, especially his exceptional sketches and watercolors. Mr Kong is also active in arts education and exhibitions. He has contributed immensely to local art, history culture and the preservation of Hong Kong's streetscape, and remains a tremendous influence on young artists.
