Born in Ravenna in 1951, he now living and works in Volta Mantovana (Mantova).
Painting was not the only profession for a number of years, and after a technical education he started his career as a draughtsman. He became an industrial manager at the age of 30 and then established his own business, offering market research, communication and software design services to large multinationals, alternating his life as a painter and that of a designer for many years.
His artistic personality has developed through an eclectic lifestyle rich in experiences, and has a strong drive for creative experimentation, exploration and learning.
The artist paints young children and old people, and suffering or needy people are often represented in his works. He is an excellent portrait artist, and his works often provoke strong emotions and give space to the innermost sentiments of the Subject.
Animals are also given due attention, through compositions and portraits done on commission.
The man lives his artistic experience as a great adventure that provokes deep and intense emotions. As a young man, he is attracted to two historical artistic characters: Rubens and Delacroix, and in time develops his own original line of expression, rich in content and perspective, where every detail takes on a fundamental symbolic role.
The journey begins in the 1970s when, with little means and great sacrifice, the artist draws and paints everything with a hungry curiosity, following different artistic trends including modernism. Later, after some informal expressive experiences, he becomes evermore attracted to everyday scenes of social reality as a stark contrast to his work as a communications and information technology designer engineer. A particularly fortunate wave pushes him towards “reality painting” during the 1980s, but without trespassing into the photographic or “hyper-real” world, and using social expressionist elements to create a strong emotional impact.
While fully respecting a variety of forms of expression, his social painting aims at representing an attempt to salvage almost totally abandoned natural means of expression and a provocative and constructive system to contrast the globalisation of communication and stimulate a more humanly functional rapid growth.
In other words, the artist wishes to review the evolutionary character of the channels which no longer live up to our expectations in both social and economic terms, proposing a scenario which is much closer to the real needs of the people.
The painter is gathering the fruits of an artistic lifestyle dedicated to the passionate study of the 16th and 17th centuries through the Italian and Flemish painting techniques.
After an initial period dedicated to mixed tempera on tablets, he then went on to carry out some detailed research into Flemish oil painting, rediscovering the incredible properties of sun-aged and thickened walnut oil.
Much time is dedicated to the study of ancient recipes, experimenting, selecting materials and dedicating all kinds of resources.Over the past few years he has perfected his own particular technique based on resins and essences to improve the luminosity of the materials and to create long lasting works.
Before beginning a new composition, the artist ably draws the outlines and details using pencils, charcoals, watercolours, coloured pencils and ink. A true specialist of the mixed techniques, he enjoys drawing with all these materials on paper treated and dyed by himself.
The artist is currently completing some large works, a large canvas portraying the dramatic events of 11th September has been underway for several months and, due to its complexity is expected to be finished in December 2002.
