Penelope Gilbert-Ng has painted since she was 3 and for 53 years has studied, explored and enjoyed her learning processes on how she wants to communicate visually the effect of light on her subjects to an audience. For she the shadows created by a light source are in a sense equally important in creating shapes, tone and composition required to paint an enjoyable painting. New York (2003) and New Mexico (2007) and has gained many awards in all mediums and her paintings are in private collections World Wide. She is a judge and an experienced workshop tutor and has taught at T.A.F.E .A.C.E. program, The Arts Academy and the Brisbane Institute of Art.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Qld Art Society Inc and Master Pastellist of the Pastel Society of Australia. Currently she is President of the Royal Qld Art Society Inc. She has written articles for Australian Artist Magazine 2002/2006.
She likes to photograph the client herself if photographs are needed. Her mark making is bold and confident yet shows sensitivity to her subjects. She captures a likeness of the sitter and during her first consultation she observes and talks with her model noting the clients’ gesture and mannerisms that she likes to add to her paintings. She believes a good portrait not only captures a physical likeness it must have the feel of that person’s personality as well. |
